18:05, 02/03/2025 On 26 February 2025, the legendary Battle of Budějce took place in the Budvar Arena, pitting the two largest academic units of the South Bohemian Region – the University of Technology and Economics (VŠTE) and the University of South Bohemia (JU) against each other. A thrilling duel full of emotions and hockey skills was eventually dominated by the students of JU, who won by a close score of 5:4!
The whole event started on the campus of the University of South Bohemia, where enthusiastic fans in red and white colours gathered. The students had their faces painted with the iconic flower, the symbol of JU, and equipped with hockey caps, clapping and loud chanting, they set off in a procession towards the Budvar Arena. The atmosphere was electric and it was clear that this was going to be an unforgettable sporting experience.
Already in the first five minutes the JU players took the lead thanks to a great attack, which ended with an accurate shot into the opponent’s goal. The game picked up a high pace and soon VŠTE was able to assert itself, equalize and then even take the lead. The game was full of fierce battles, technically excellent actions and thunderous support from the stands.
At 4:4 it seemed that the match was heading to overtime, but in the last five minutes the University of South Bohemia players managed to push through and scored the decisive goal that decided their triumph. The Budvar Arena exploded with enthusiasm!
After the dramatic match, the students headed to the official after party at Club K2, where the victory celebrations (and the sporting spirit) continued into the early hours of the morning. The evening was sponsored by Pepino and included two competitions for valuable prizes, adding to the fantastic atmosphere of the day.
